MEDECINS DU MONDE FRANCE seeks Two Mental Health Officers (M/F) 
For Nepal based in Chautara or Sukute
 
MDM has been working in Nepal since 1995 and is currently implementing a project in Sindhupalchowk District that aims at providing relief to populations affected by the earthquake.
TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES:

  • Under the responsibility of the Mental Health Coordinator, the Mental Health Officer is in charge of the implementation, follow up and supervision of the different psychosocial and mental health activities of MdM in Nepal, as part of the comprehensive Primary Health Care package provided by MdM based on Chautara and Sukute.

DETAILED ACTIVITIES
Psycho-social activities Management

  • Asses the needs and gaps in psycho-social support for the community
  • Participate in the mapping and updating of the actors in Mental Health and psychosocial activities in the area
  • Identify possibly partnerships with existing organisations or groups
  • Plan the different activities
  • Realize Mental Health Support for identified cases if needed
  • Organize psychosocial group sessions if needed
  • Keep and improve a referral system for psychosocial and mental health cases from the Primary to the Secondary level
  • Collect Data for mental health activities according with the needs of  reporting
  • Manage with Partners about the most appropriate psycho-social activities to be developed and proposed within the Mental Health care approach
  • Report regularly all informations regarding activities (data, monthly reports), respecting quality standards
  • Plan awareness events on Mental Health topics

Capacities Building

  • Provide technical support in mental health related issues to MDMs’ and partners’ staff.
  • Organize (based on the other international organisations work and DoH) the capacity building for MDMs’ and partners’ staff in mental health
  • Develop or adapt specific didactic materials for technical topics and capacity building activities
  • Supervise staff in the psychosocial activities after the training

Coordination with UN agencies, NGOs, local medical authorities and local authorities

  • Participate to specific coordination meetings
  • Represent MDM towards health local authorities and national/international health partners regarding mental health upon request from the Mental Health Coordinator
  • Participate to other strategic/coordination meeting under delegation of the mental health coordinator
  • This list of activities is not exhaustive and may change depending on the situation

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Starting: As Soon As Possible
  • Contract: Employee With fixed term contract (2 months, renewable) / Full time
  • One position in Chautara and the other in Sukute

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED:
Skills required:

  • Licensed Psychologist
  • Experience in a similar position
  • Knowledge of public health issues, in relation to Mental Health.
  • Experience in negotiations with local authorities, partners and staff in difficult contexts is an asset
  • Ability to train on mental health/social issues
  • Ability to take effective decisions according to the context
  • Capacity to create relationships with the communities
  • Experience working in humanitarian emergency settings is an asset

  • Ability to transfer competences and provide capacity building
  • Reactivity, anticipation, adaptability and capacity to take initiatives to changing requirements
  • Organizational skills, rigor
  • Ability to synthesize
  • Listening and diplomacy skills
  • Good writing and communication skills inside
  • Interest for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law

Computer skills: Word, Excel, Power Point.
Languages: Nepali, English, French is an asset
