1. What is the Omicron variant?

Omicron variant coronavirus is the most recent variant of covid-19. If this variant was first confirmed in South Africa which is seen in different countries like the US, UK, Australia, India including Nepal.

2. When Omicron was found?

On 26 November 2021, WHO  has announced the new coronavirus variant B.1.1.529 named Omicron as the Variant of concern(VOC). As said by CDC ” This new variant was first detected in specimens collected on November 11, 2021, in Botswana and on November 14, 2021, in South Africa”.

They have warned regarding the serious symptoms of this variant and contagious as it has more mutations however different studies have been undergoing.

3. Is the Omicron variant more contagious than the Delta Variants?

The infection rate of the Omicron variant virus in  South Africa and other countries has increased in number including other countries. The omicron variant has detected 24 mutants whereas the delta variant of the corona is only 8. So, scientists and researchers all over the world are worried about the infection and severity of it.
